When Will GTA 6 Come to PC? Rockstar Is Silent, but Its Release History Offers Clues

GTA 6 is coming to consoles on November 19, 2026, but millions of PC players are still waiting for Rockstar Games to answer a much more frustrating question: when will Grand Theft Auto VI arrive on Windows?

Rockstar currently lists only PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for launch. There is no official GTA 6 PC release date, no confirmed PC pre-order and no public system requirements.

That silence does not necessarily mean PC players will be left behind permanently.

Rockstar has followed a similar strategy before. Looking at the studio’s previous releases provides a reasonable way to estimate the possible wait, although history cannot guarantee what happens this time.

Rockstar Has Not Announced GTA 6 for PC Yet

The most important fact is also the simplest.

Rockstar has not officially announced a PC version of GTA 6.

The game launches first on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Every specific PC date circulating online should therefore be treated as speculation unless Rockstar or Take-Two confirms it.

That includes retailer placeholders, social media claims and supposed leaks.

A PC version remains widely expected because Rockstar has eventually brought its recent major games to the platform. However, expectation is not the same as confirmation.

GTA 5 Made PC Players Wait Around 19 Months

Grand Theft Auto V provides the most obvious comparison.

GTA 5 originally launched for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17, 2013. The PC edition did not arrive until April 14, 2015.

That represents a gap of roughly 19 months.

The situation was complicated by the arrival of PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions in November 2014, which appeared several months before PC.

Rockstar therefore treated the PC edition as a later stage of GTA 5’s expansion rather than part of its original launch.

If GTA 6 followed exactly the same timeline, PC players could be waiting until around mid-2028.

That is possible, but it is not necessarily the best prediction.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Had a Shorter PC Delay

A more recent Rockstar release provides a potentially better comparison.

Red Dead Redemption 2 launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on October 26, 2018. Its Windows version followed on November 5, 2019.

That gap was approximately 13 months.

Applying a similar delay to GTA 6 would place the PC release around late 2027.

That feels like a plausible window because it reflects Rockstar’s more recent development history while still preserving the company’s established console-first strategy.

GTA 4 Reached PC Much Faster

Going further back produces another result.

Grand Theft Auto IV arrived on consoles in April 2008 before reaching Windows in December of the same year.

PC players waited roughly seven months.

If GTA 6 somehow followed that pattern, a PC edition could arrive around the middle of 2027.

However, modern Rockstar games are vastly more complex than GTA 4. Development cycles have become longer, and PC hardware now covers an enormous range of configurations.

A seven-month turnaround may therefore be optimistic.

Rockstar’s History Points Toward 2027 or 2028

Put those major examples together and a broad pattern emerges.

Rockstar generally releases its biggest games on consoles first, then brings them to PC months later.

GTA 4 took about seven months. Red Dead Redemption 2 took about 13 months. GTA 5 took roughly 19 months.

Using those releases as reference points puts a reasonable speculative GTA 6 PC window somewhere between mid-2027 and mid-2028.

Late 2027 may be the most balanced estimate if Rockstar follows something close to the Red Dead Redemption 2 schedule.

Again, this is analysis rather than confirmation.

Why Does Rockstar Release PC Versions Later?

There are several practical reasons for a delayed PC launch.

Console development gives Rockstar a fixed hardware target. Every PS5 has broadly the same capabilities, as does every Xbox Series X or Series S within its respective specification.

PC is different.

Rockstar must account for different processors, graphics cards, memory configurations, storage devices, drivers, resolutions and operating environments.

For a game as technically ambitious as GTA 6, optimisation across that range could require considerable additional work.

Rockstar has previously indicated that PC versions require extra attention to reach the standard the company expects.

There Is Also an Obvious Commercial Advantage

Technical development may not be the only factor.

A delayed PC release can create two major sales periods.

Players buy the console edition first. Later, Rockstar launches an enhanced PC version and creates another wave of attention.

Some dedicated fans may even buy the game twice.

That happened with GTA 5, where players moved between console generations and eventually PC as Rockstar released new versions.

With GTA 6 carrying extraordinary demand, Take-Two has little reason to ignore the commercial advantages of a staggered release.

PC Players May Be Tempted to Buy a Console Instead

The uncertainty creates a difficult choice for PC players.

Waiting potentially means avoiding GTA 6 spoilers for a year or longer.

Buying a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S provides access immediately on November 19.

Recent UK hardware data suggests GTA 6 is already influencing that decision. Console demand has risen around major Rockstar announcements, with PS5 Pro attracting particular interest.

For Sony and Microsoft, the absence of a simultaneous PC version could become a significant hardware sales opportunity.

A Later PC Version Could Offer Technical Advantages

Waiting may have benefits too.

Historically, Rockstar’s PC releases have offered features unavailable or more limited on the original console editions.

A future GTA 6 PC version could potentially provide higher resolutions, broader graphics settings, improved frame rates and support for powerful future GPUs.

Modding will almost certainly become another major attraction, assuming the community embraces GTA 6 as strongly as it did GTA 5.

None of those specific improvements has been confirmed.

Still, PC hardware available in 2027 or 2028 could push Leonida considerably beyond its console presentation.

Do Not Download Any Supposed GTA 6 PC Build

The uncertainty around the PC release has also created a security problem.

Fake GTA 6 installers are already circulating online. Some claim to offer leaked PC builds or early-access versions while actually distributing malware.

There is currently no legitimate public GTA 6 Windows installer.

Until Rockstar announces a PC version, any website claiming to provide one should be treated with extreme suspicion.

The wait may be frustrating. Installing an infostealer or ransomware is worse.

Late 2027 Looks Plausible, but Only Rockstar Knows

Rockstar’s history gives PC players a useful framework, but not a release date.

A seven-month delay would point toward mid-2027. Following Red Dead Redemption 2 would suggest late 2027. Repeating GTA 5’s much longer gap could push the release into 2028.

Of those possibilities, late 2027 currently looks like a reasonable middle-ground prediction.

Rockstar could surprise everyone with a shorter wait. It could also take considerably longer.

Until an official announcement arrives, November 19 belongs to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

PC players are left doing what they have done many times before with Rockstar.

Waiting.
