GTA 6 is scheduled for release in 2025, but so far, Rockstar has only confirmed it for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Is there any chance the game will also be available for PS4 and Xbox One?

Confirmed Platforms for GTA 6

Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released in fall 2025. However, the studio has only mentioned support for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. So far, no information has been provided regarding versions for last-gen consoles, namely the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Will GTA 6 Come to PS4 or Xbox One?

In short, it’s highly unlikely. The idea that GTA 6 could launch on PS4 or Xbox One is almost entirely ruled out. These platforms are now over 12 years old and considered outdated for modern AAA game development.

Rockstar is designing GTA 6 with a significantly larger map and major improvements in graphics quality, both of which demand hardware capabilities far beyond what the PS4 and Xbox One can offer.

Why Last-Gen Consoles Won’t Get GTA 6

There’s arguably no game more anticipated than GTA 6. Following the massive success of GTA 5, Rockstar’s next entry in the franchise is set to raise the bar again. But the decision to skip last-gen platforms isn’t surprising when you look at industry trends.

Few, if any, AAA games in 2025 are launching on PS4 or Xbox One. Most developers have fully transitioned to focusing on next-gen consoles. These older systems simply don’t have the power or memory bandwidth to support the technical advancements being built into modern open-world games.

GTA 6 Requires More Power Than PS4 and Xbox One Can Deliver

Rockstar has finally revealed that GTA 6 is coming in fall 2025, but the news has also disappointed many fans still gaming on older hardware. Unfortunately, GTA 6 will not be available for PS4 or Xbox One due to technical limitations.

The game will feature an expanded open world, advanced AI systems, and next-level visual fidelity—features that require high-end hardware to run smoothly. Simply put, the PS4 and Xbox One lack the capability to handle the next-gen game engine behind GTA 6.

A True Next-Gen Experience

By focusing exclusively on the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, Rockstar is making it clear: GTA 6 is a true next-generation experience. For fans still using last-gen consoles, the only path forward will likely be upgrading to newer hardware to experience everything the game has to offer.
