Cars, clothes and weapons usually dominate conversations about GTA 6, but Rockstar Games has spent years building another, less obvious part of Grand Theft Auto culture: watches.

Across the franchise, fictional timepiece brands have borrowed visual cues from some of the watch industry’s most recognizable names. Rolex, Tudor, Casio and Audemars Piguet all appear to have influenced designs found within Rockstar’s satirical universe.

With Grand Theft Auto VI returning players to Vice City and the wider state of Leonida, watches could once again become an important part of character customization and status. Rockstar has not confirmed exactly how the system will work in GTA 6, but the series already has a surprisingly developed horological identity.

Three names stand out: Crowex, Kronos and Covgari. Each occupies a different corner of GTA’s fictional watch market, and the real-world inspirations are difficult to miss.

Crowex Is GTA’s Answer to Rolex

Among Rockstar’s fictional manufacturers, Crowex has perhaps the clearest real-world connection.

The name itself immediately recalls Rolex, but the similarities extend into the designs. Crowex watches tend to communicate wealth through precious-metal finishes, recognizable proportions and the visual language of traditional luxury sports watches.

One particularly obvious comparison is the Rolex Day-Date Ref. 228238 in yellow gold. Its combination of a gold case and bracelet creates exactly the kind of high-status appearance that fits GTA’s exaggerated approach to wealth.

That makes sense within Rockstar’s world. Grand Theft Auto has always used consumer products as shorthand for personality and social position. A luxury car says something about its owner. So does an expensive suit. A gold watch can perform the same function without a line of dialogue.

The Rolex Submariner Influence Is Also Visible

Crowex does not appear to draw inspiration from only one Rolex family.

The Rolex Submariner Ref. 16613 provides another useful comparison. Its combination of stainless steel and yellow gold helped establish a distinctive two-tone luxury sports aesthetic.

Similar ideas can be found in Rockstar’s fictional watch catalogue, where sports watches frequently combine functional styling with deliberately conspicuous materials.

There are also hints of Tudor. The Tudor Black Bay Chrono in its two-tone configuration shares several characteristics with the broader design vocabulary Rockstar uses for its fictional luxury watches.

Rockstar is not producing exact digital replicas. Instead, it takes recognizable elements and reshapes them into something familiar enough to support the joke.

Kronos Looks Toward Casio Instead of Traditional Luxury

Kronos represents a noticeably different side of GTA watch culture.

Rather than imitating expensive Swiss status pieces, the brand leans toward functional digital watches with a more technical appearance. Rugged cases, digital displays and practical styling define the look.

The connection to Casio is particularly apparent.

WatchPro highlights the Casio Pro Trek PRW-1300 as a strong real-world comparison. The Pro Trek family was built around outdoor functionality, combining substantial cases with digital information displays and a tool-watch aesthetic.

That design language fits Kronos remarkably well.

Within GTA, a watch inspired by a rugged Casio serves a completely different character than a gold Crowex. One suggests luxury and financial success. The other communicates practicality, technology or a more tactical appearance.

For a game centered heavily on customization, those differences matter.

Covgari Takes Inspiration From Audemars Piguet

At the higher end of Rockstar’s fictional market sits Covgari.

The name itself appears to play with the identity of established luxury jewelry houses, but its watches also borrow strongly from the integrated-bracelet sports-watch category.

The most recognizable influence is the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

Few modern watches have a silhouette as distinctive. The Royal Oak’s octagonal bezel, exposed screws and integrated bracelet established a design that has become instantly associated with high-end sports watches.

Those same visual cues appear in Covgari designs.

Chronograph layouts add another layer of familiarity, allowing Rockstar to create a watch that immediately communicates extreme expense without placing a real Audemars Piguet product directly inside the game.

Fans familiar with watches may recognize the inspiration almost instantly. Everyone else simply sees an expensive-looking accessory. Both reactions work.

Why Rockstar Creates Fictional Watch Brands

Grand Theft Auto has been parodying real companies since the series began. Cars are often inspired by recognizable manufacturers without carrying their actual badges. Fashion labels imitate luxury houses. Technology companies parody familiar Silicon Valley businesses.

Watches fit naturally into that system.

Using fictional companies such as Crowex and Covgari gives Rockstar creative freedom. Designers can combine elements from multiple real watches while exaggerating the associations surrounding them.

A gold watch can become even more ostentatious. A technical digital model can look aggressively utilitarian. An integrated-bracelet piece can communicate instant wealth.

This is where GTA’s satire works best. The object looks believable, yet something about it remains deliberately exaggerated.

Watches Have Been More Than Background Props in GTA

The connection is particularly interesting because watches have not always been simple environmental decoration.

Previous Grand Theft Auto games have allowed players to purchase clothing and accessories from fictional retailers, including Didier Sachs. Watches have formed part of that wider customization culture.

That gives them a practical purpose. Players can use accessories to create a particular identity for their character rather than simply accepting a predetermined appearance.

GTA Online pushed customization considerably further, turning clothing, jewelry, vehicles and other possessions into important expressions of a player’s virtual wealth.

A recognizable luxury watch fits perfectly within that economy.

Could GTA 6 Expand Watch Customization?

Rockstar has not confirmed that GTA 6 watches will use the same purchasing and customization systems seen elsewhere in the franchise.

However, there is good reason to watch closely.

Official GTA 6 material has already demonstrated Rockstar’s emphasis on clothing, lifestyle and the contrasting social environments found throughout Leonida. Vice City provides an especially appropriate backdrop for flashy jewelry and luxury accessories.

Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos could potentially gain access to different watches as their circumstances change, although Rockstar has not announced such a progression system.

The possibilities become even more interesting if GTA 6 expands the franchise’s retail mechanics. Dedicated stores, more detailed interiors and deeper character customization could turn watches into collectible status pieces rather than minor clothing options.

For now, that remains speculation.

GTA 6’s Smallest Accessories Tell a Bigger Story

Grand Theft Auto’s fictional watches demonstrate the unusual level of cultural detail Rockstar puts into its worlds.

Crowex channels the recognizable prestige of Rolex and elements of Tudor. Kronos takes a more practical route reminiscent of Casio’s outdoor watches. Covgari enters high-end sports-watch territory with clear echoes of the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak.

None needs to reproduce its inspiration exactly. That would miss the point.

Rockstar uses familiar design language to tell players what an object represents before they even read its fictional brand name. Wealth, practicality and excess can all be communicated through something as small as a wristwatch.

As more of Grand Theft Auto 6 emerges, fans will naturally study the cars, streets and weapons. Watch enthusiasts may want to look somewhere else as well.
