Rockstar Games is finally preparing to reveal more of GTA 6, and it is doing so through an unusual partnership. Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look will premiere on Netflix on August 27, giving subscribers the first opportunity to watch Rockstar’s latest presentation before it reaches YouTube.

The event begins at 8 p.m. BST in the UK. Netflix will have a six hour exclusivity window, after which Rockstar plans to make the presentation available more widely through its official channels.

It is an unconventional strategy for a videogame reveal, especially for a title that hardly needs additional help attracting an audience. GTA 6 remains one of the most closely watched entertainment releases in development.

Still, Rockstar clearly wants this presentation to feel like an event rather than another trailer upload.

GTA 6 Extended Look Premieres on August 27

The next major GTA 6 presentation is scheduled for August 27, 2026. Rockstar is calling it “An Extended Look,” wording that immediately separates it from the two numbered trailers released during the game’s long promotional campaign.

Netflix subscribers will receive the presentation first. The UK premiere is scheduled for 8 p.m. BST.

Rockstar has confirmed that the Netflix exclusivity is temporary. Six hours later, the Extended Look will become available on YouTube. That puts the wider release at 9 p.m. ET on August 27, or 2 a.m. BST on August 28 for viewers in the UK.

Players therefore do not need a Netflix subscription to see the new material. Those without access simply have to wait several additional hours.

Rockstar and Netflix Are Trying Something Different

Rockstar has described the arrangement as a first of its kind partnership with Netflix. The collaboration gives the streaming service temporary control over one of the most anticipated gaming presentations of the year.

From Netflix’s perspective, the attraction is obvious. GTA commands an enormous global audience, including millions of people who may not normally associate the streaming platform with major videogame announcements.

Rockstar gains something different. The scheduled premiere turns its next reveal into a television style event rather than simply another video appearing online.

The six hour restriction may frustrate some fans, particularly those who prefer watching through YouTube. However, the short exclusivity period means the presentation will still become freely accessible on the same day in North America.

What Does “An Extended Look” Actually Mean?

This is the question that matters most.

Rockstar has not described the August presentation as GTA 6 Trailer 3. Instead, the company is using the more deliberate “Extended Look” branding.

That raises expectations for something more substantial than a conventional cinematic trailer.

Rockstar could finally provide a detailed gameplay demonstration covering driving, combat, exploration and interactions across Leonida. Jason and Lucia may receive more attention as well, particularly if their relationship influences how missions and free roaming work.

There is also plenty about the world itself that remains unexplained.

Previous footage has shown crowded beaches, nightclubs, highways, wetlands, convenience stores and numerous vehicles. Rockstar could use the Extended Look to explain how those environments connect and how much freedom players have outside Vice City’s urban center.

None of those subjects have been confirmed for the presentation, so expectations should remain measured. The title alone, however, suggests Rockstar intends to offer more than another short montage.

GTA 6 Information Has Arrived Slowly

The August reveal is particularly significant because Rockstar has kept information tightly controlled throughout GTA 6’s marketing cycle.

The company has relied on major trailers, screenshots and carefully timed announcements rather than maintaining a constant stream of updates.

That approach has worked.

Every new piece of Grand Theft Auto VI news attracts enormous attention, while individual trailer scenes are analyzed for details about vehicles, characters, locations and gameplay mechanics.

More recently, Rockstar has revealed details surrounding special edition content and preorder bonuses. The company has also faced discussion over its approach to physical copies, with Top Gear noting that boxed versions are set to contain download codes rather than traditional game discs.

For players who still value physical ownership, that decision has become another talking point surrounding the release.

Cars Should Play a Major Role in the Next GTA 6 Reveal

For driving fans, the Extended Look could be particularly interesting.

Vehicles have always been fundamental to Grand Theft Auto, but modern hardware gives Rockstar opportunities that simply did not exist when GTA 5 first appeared in 2013.

The GTA 6 footage released so far has already shown a broad mix of vehicles moving through busy streets and highways. Sports cars, trucks, motorcycles and everyday traffic all contribute to the identity of Rockstar’s fictional Florida.

A longer gameplay demonstration could finally reveal how GTA 6 driving has evolved.

Handling remains one of the most debated elements of the series. GTA 4 emphasized weight and body movement, while GTA 5 introduced more immediate and forgiving controls. Finding a convincing balance between accessibility and physical feedback would make a noticeable difference in a game where players spend so much time behind the wheel.

Jason and Lucia Will Lead Rockstar’s Return to Vice City

Rockstar has confirmed that Jason and Lucia will sit at the center of GTA 6.

The pair represent a significant change from GTA 5’s trio of Michael, Franklin and Trevor. Instead of following three largely separate personalities, Rockstar appears to be placing the relationship between two protagonists at the heart of the story.

The modern version of Vice City also marks a major return for the series.

Rockstar’s fictional Miami previously served as the setting for 2002’s Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, but GTA 6 expands far beyond the familiar city. The wider state of Leonida includes coastal regions, wetlands, highways and smaller communities inspired by Florida.

That scale makes a longer presentation particularly valuable. Trailers can establish atmosphere, but they cannot easily explain how a large open world functions.

GTA 6 Still Targets November 19, 2026

Most importantly, Rockstar’s release plans remain unchanged.

GTA 6 is scheduled for November 19, 2026. Rockstar currently plans to release the game for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

That places the Netflix event less than three months before launch, making August 27 an ideal point for Rockstar to shift its campaign into a more detailed phase.

Fans may be surprised by the decision to premiere the presentation through Netflix rather than YouTube. Yet Rockstar has rarely needed to follow conventional marketing rules. Grand Theft Auto carries enough cultural weight to turn an unusual distribution strategy into a major event by itself.

The real question is not whether people will watch. They will.

What matters is how much Rockstar is finally prepared to show.

After years of carefully rationed information, GTA 6’s Extended Look could provide the clearest picture yet of Jason, Lucia, Leonida and the systems that will define Rockstar’s next open world.
