Does Grand Theft Auto VI Feature Underwater Vehicles?

Speculation is circulating that Grand Theft Auto VI may offer more than land and air navigation perhaps even underwater vehicles like submarines. The idea excites fans and raises questions about how deep sea mechanics might integrate into the open-world design. However, at present there is no official confirmation of such vehicles.

What the Leaks and Forums Suggest

Fan communities point to hints in trailers and part-leaked footage that the upcoming title will include a robust aquatic environment. One article notes that GTA VI may feature “explorable underwater areas filled with treasure, danger, and secrets.”  On forum threads the topic comes up frequently. For example, one user commented: “I would love to see a sub that is actually fun to drive around in visually.”

That said, mention of a specific submarine or submersible vehicle remains speculative. Some posts reference mapping projects and potential underwater stations.

Historical Precedents in the Franchise

The preceding entry in the series, Grand Theft Auto V, did include a vehicle known as the “Submersible” for underwater use. That precedent shows that the franchise has experimented with submerged vehicles before but it also shows that they remain rare and narrowly featured.

Given Rockstar’s history, integration of underwater vehicles in GTA VI would mark an evolution rather than a departure. The game’s tropical setting (rumoured to include archipelagos and coastal keys) appears suited for expanded marine features.

Why Underwater Vehicles Would Matter

If submarines or submersibles are included, they could add a new layer of freedom. Diving beneath the waves, exploring wrecks, evading pursuers these are compelling gameplay possibilities. For players who believe open worlds should branch vertically and horizontally, this could be one of the biggest surprises.

However, implementation would also bring challenges: physics for underwater movement, controls, hazards like pressure depth, and how vehicles would interact with other systems. If done poorly, it risks feeling tacked-on. But if handled with care, it could transform sections of the map into genuine exploration zones.

Our Current Take

For now, the answer is: we do not have confirmed evidence that GTA VI will include dedicated submarines or underwater vehicles. Rumours persist and they look credible, yet Rockstar and parent company Rockstar Games have not officially declared this feature.

That said, it remains plausible. With the game’s anticipated scope and the developer’s ambition for deeper systems, underwater vehicles would align nicely with an expanded world. So, until launch we must wait. And hope. Because if it arrives it might be one of the game’s most talked-about features.
