GTA 6 leaks and details: Everything we know

GTA 6 is one of the most anticipated game projects of the last decade. Rockstar Games has created one of the most iconic video game series, amassing a huge fan base eagerly awaiting news about the next chapter of Grand Theft Auto. However, there is still not much official information about the game. In this article, we have compiled all the relevant questions and leaks about GTA 6 that are circulating online.

GTA 6 Trailer

On December 5, 2023, the first trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 was released on Rockstar Games’ official channel, with a duration of 1.5 minutes. The trailer did not show any actual gameplay elements, as the images were pre-rendered. However, this was enough to capture the attention of fans of the franchise. In just 24 hours after its publication on YouTube, the trailer reached over 90 million views, setting a record for videos unrelated to music and video games. This demonstrated the enduring popularity of the series and gamers’ eagerness for a sequel. The trailer was leaked a few days before its planned reveal, forcing Rockstar Games to make the announcement ahead of schedule.

GTA 6 leak

 On September 18, 2022, there was a massive leak of materials related to GTA 6. A user with the nickname “teapotuberhacker” released a large amount of code, photos, and video materials from an early version of the game. The authenticity of this leak was confirmed by Bloomberg’s editor-in-chief and insider Jason Schreier. The leak included dozens of short gameplay videos, hundreds of screenshots, and several thousand lines of game code. The videos showed fragments of the early version of the game, with poorly executed details and almost empty environments. Despite this, many elements were already quite developed.

According to data miners, the leaked materials reflected content from 2019, which means that the quality in 2022 (and especially in 2024) is likely to be much higher, as Rockstar has made significant progress since then.

 

What the leaks revealed about GTA 6

Gameplay

The leaks also contained small video fragments with gameplay elements. The state of these videos is likely outdated compared to the current version of the game. However, it was possible to see the ability to control the main characters, shoot, and drive various vehicles.

The locations in these videos were quite empty, although there were NPCs, various objects, and a few buildings. Early versions often reuse elements from GTA 5 as placeholders during development and testing.

Rumors suggest that GTA 6’s gameplay will be more diverse and developed, with more movement mechanics and interactivity, possibly approaching Red Dead Redemption 2. This means a more limited inventory, realistic gameplay details, and a level of immersion unprecedented in the industry.

In addition, the game may include some RPG elements, and activities such as bank robberies or other crimes will be more dynamic and visually impressive than before. Police AI is expected to adapt to the player’s actions, rather than simply trying to shoot or kill the protagonists.

Main characters

The new Grand Theft Auto will be a significant change for the series, as one of the protagonists will be a female character—Lucia. Another important character is Jason. However, the relationship between them is still unclear: are they siblings, lovers, or simply find themselves in the same situation? They may even resemble a modern version of Bonnie & Clyde.

Map

The events of GTA 6 will take players back to the familiar city of Vice City. The map in the new game will be much larger than in previous games, including GTA 5. In December 2023, a comparative image leaked online showing the size of the GTA 5 map compared to that of GTA 6, which is about 2.5 times larger, covering approximately 80 square kilometers.

  GTA 6 is said to have a budget of $2 billion, an astronomical sum in the gaming industry. For comparison, GTA 5 cost $265 million to produce, which was also considered a huge budget at the time. GTA 5 not only recouped its costs, but generated a profit of $8 billion for Rockstar Games.

  Given the popularity of the franchise and the huge interest from gamers, it is safe to say that GTA 6 will be a massive success. However, the question remains: how much will the game cost?

  GTA 6 price

  There is still no official announcement about the price of GTA 6, and Rockstar has not shared any information in this regard. Some speculate that the game may follow the trend of AAA games and cost $70 for the standard edition, while others believe that the price could reach $150, considering the scale of the project. However, these speculations have not been confirmed by insiders or developers, so they should be viewed with caution.

  Release date

  After the trailer was released, fans expected to see the official release date, but that did not happen. Rockstar is keeping the release date under wraps for now. However, a recent financial report from Take-Two Interactive suggests that GTA 6 is scheduled to be released in late fall 2025.

  This timeframe is ideal for the release of a game of this magnitude, as it coincides with the holiday season when demand for games as gifts peaks, meaning sales are likely to be very high.

  Currently, Take-Two Interactive does not anticipate any delays in the game’s release.

  Platforms
  

  From the trailer, it is clear that Rockstar Games plans to release GTA 6 primarily on next-generation consoles, including Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 | Pro. However, there are concerns about the game’s performance on Xbox Series S, as many developers have reported challenges with this console, suggesting that it may slow down game development and release.
