Pre-orders for Sony’s new GTA 6 PS5 DualSense controllers have started, and the launch is already attracting heavy interest from players. Two limited-edition designs are being released, one black and one white, with both built around the distinctive visual identity of Grand Theft Auto VI.
The controllers are priced at $84.99 in the United States and £74.99 in the United Kingdom. They are scheduled to release on November 19, 2026, alongside GTA 6. However, buying one may be more complicated than the price suggests.
Early demand has produced online queues, repeated page refreshing and, in some cases, checkout problems. That makes one thing clear: these controllers are unlikely to behave like an ordinary DualSense release.
Two GTA 6 DualSense Controllers Are Available
Sony has prepared two versions of the GTA 6 limited edition DualSense. While the basic hardware remains familiar, the cosmetic treatment is closely tied to Rockstar Games’ new version of Vice City.
Both controllers feature palm-inspired detailing, contrasting pink elements and a reflective finish designed to shift visually under different lighting. The styling draws heavily from the coastal sunsets, nightlife and neon atmosphere associated with GTA 6’s fictional state of Leonida.
The black controller has a darker presentation that makes the illuminated-style details stand out more strongly. In contrast, the white model keeps the familiar PlayStation aesthetic while adding the same Vice City influence.
There is also more going on than a simple printed pattern. Raised palm details are incorporated into parts of the controller surface, giving the design a physical texture as well as a different appearance.
The Black and White Models Have Different Availability
The most important difference between the two editions is where they can be purchased.
The white GTA 6 DualSense controller is being distributed through PlayStation Direct and participating retailers in supported markets. That gives buyers several possible routes to secure one.
The black GTA 6 DualSense, however, is more restricted. Sony is selling that edition exclusively through PlayStation Direct in markets where the service operates.
This distinction could make the black model considerably harder to obtain, particularly during the initial pre-order period. Even if overall production numbers are similar, limiting one design to a single official storefront naturally concentrates demand.
Pre-Orders Have Already Produced Queues and Payment Issues
The first hours of UK availability have not been entirely smooth. Buyers attempting to order through PlayStation Direct have encountered significant waiting-room queues, while some users who reached checkout reportedly experienced problems completing payment.
Stock has not disappeared everywhere, though. The black edition has remained available through PlayStation Direct during parts of the launch window, while the white model has appeared across several UK retailers.
That situation can change quickly. Limited-edition PlayStation hardware often moves through several phases of availability as cancelled orders return to inventory and retailers release stock at different times.
Fans may therefore be surprised to see a controller apparently sold out at one moment and available again later in the day.
Retail Timing May Not Be Completely Predictable
Sony scheduled the GTA 6 controller pre-orders for September 10, with sales beginning at 10 a.m. ET in the United States and 10 a.m. local time across European markets.
However, retailers do not always follow hardware launch schedules perfectly. Previous PlayStation accessory releases have occasionally appeared before an announced start time, while major online stores such as Amazon sometimes activate listings independently.
For buyers still searching, this means checking more than one retailer may be worthwhile. The white controller has the advantage here because it is not tied exclusively to Sony’s own store.
Limited Supply Could Keep Demand High
Sony has described both Grand Theft Auto VI DualSense controllers as products available in limited quantities. That wording matters.
GTA 6 is already one of the most closely watched game releases in the industry, so even players who do not normally collect limited-edition hardware may be interested. The controllers also arrive on the same day as the game, making them an obvious companion purchase for launch.
Moreover, collectors may want both designs rather than choosing only one. The black edition’s restricted distribution could make it especially desirable if supply becomes tight.
A sellout during the first wave would not necessarily mean the controllers are gone permanently. Sony has restocked previous limited-edition DualSense models after their initial launch windows. Still, there is no guarantee that future quantities will match demand.
PC Players Can Use the Controllers Too
The release is not limited to PS5 owners. The DualSense can also connect to compatible PCs through USB or Bluetooth, although support for specific controller features varies between games.
That may appeal to PC players who want a piece of official GTA 6 hardware even though Rockstar’s next Grand Theft Auto is launching on consoles first.
For now, the bigger story is availability. The combination of limited supply, GTA branding and two highly distinctive designs has turned what might normally be a routine controller launch into another major part of the GTA 6 release campaign.
With November 19 approaching, Sony and Rockstar are steadily expanding the hardware and marketing around the game. These controllers show just how large that campaign is becoming.
