GTA 6 may be the biggest release left on the 2026 calendar, but Rockstar Games is not getting the final months of the year entirely to itself.
Several notable games are still scheduled to arrive before and after Grand Theft Auto VI, creating one of the most unusual release calendars the industry has seen in years.
The reason is obvious. GTA 6 launches on November 19, placing one of gaming’s most anticipated releases directly in the middle of the holiday shopping season.
Industry executives have previously discussed the difficulty of releasing another major game close to Rockstar’s blockbuster. However, it is important not to assume that every nearby release date was specifically chosen to avoid GTA 6.
What is clear is that November 19 has become a date every major publisher has to consider.
1. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Arrives Before GTA 6
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is listed for October 23, giving Activision’s shooter several weeks of breathing room before GTA 6 arrives.
Call of Duty is one of the few gaming franchises large enough to command enormous attention regardless of the surrounding release schedule.
Even so, an October launch gives the game time to establish its multiplayer audience before Rockstar dominates the conversation in November.
The game is listed for PC, PS5, Xbox and Switch 2.
2. Phantom Blade Zero Lands in Late October
Phantom Blade Zero follows on October 29 for PS5 and PC.
S-Game’s action RPG occupies a very different genre from Grand Theft Auto, but both games compete for the same limited resource: players’ time.
A late October release gives Phantom Blade Zero roughly three weeks before GTA 6 enters the market.
That window could prove valuable for a new franchise trying to establish itself beside much larger names.
3. The Wolf Among Us Remastered Is Also Listed for October 29
The Wolf Among Us Remastered is another late October release currently appearing on the 2026 calendar.
This is a remastered release rather than an entirely new game, which makes direct comparisons with GTA 6 less meaningful.
Still, its timing illustrates how crowded the weeks immediately preceding Rockstar’s launch have become.
The narrative adventure is listed for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch and Switch 2.
4. Ocarina of Time Returns Shortly Before GTA 6
Another major name appears on November 5, with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time listed for Switch 2.
Zelda occupies a very different part of the market from Grand Theft Auto, and Nintendo’s audience gives the franchise considerable insulation from competing releases.
Nevertheless, November 5 places it only two weeks ahead of GTA 6.
For players interested in both, that is not a particularly large gap.
It also demonstrates why late 2026 is becoming less about games directly competing with GTA 6 and more about finding enough time to play everything.
5. Metaphor: ReFantazio Comes to Switch 2
Metaphor: ReFantazio is listed for a Switch 2 release on November 12.
This is another important distinction when examining the late-year calendar. Not every release surrounding GTA 6 represents a brand-new game.
Some are remasters or new platform editions of existing titles.
Metaphor’s Switch 2 version arrives only one week before GTA 6, but its established reputation and different audience make the situation more complicated than a straightforward head-to-head battle.
6. GTA 6 Takes the Centre of the Calendar on November 19
Then comes the release everything else is being compared against.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
Rockstar returns to Vice City as part of the much larger state of Leonida, with Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval leading the story.
Years of anticipation have turned GTA 6 into something bigger than a normal AAA launch.
Rockstar has also dramatically increased marketing throughout 2026. New screenshots, developer interviews and extended footage have revealed more about Leonida’s wildlife, weather, activities and characters.
That attention explains why publishers have been so conscious of GTA 6’s position on the calendar.
7. Monster Hunter Wilds Comes to Switch 2 After GTA 6
The calendar does not simply stop once GTA 6 arrives.
Monster Hunter Wilds is listed for a Switch 2 edition on December 4.
That puts it around two weeks after Rockstar’s launch.
Again, this is a new platform release rather than the original debut of Monster Hunter Wilds. However, it demonstrates that publishers are still willing to release major brands in GTA 6’s immediate aftermath.
By December, the holiday sales period will already be in full swing.
Why GTA 6 Has Such an Impact on Other Publishers
The concern surrounding the GTA 6 release window is not simply about losing a few sales.
Large games compete for attention.
A player who spends dozens of hours exploring Leonida has fewer hours available for another open-world game, RPG or multiplayer release. Marketing becomes harder too, because GTA 6 is likely to dominate gaming coverage and social media around launch.
That creates a challenge even for games targeting different audiences.
The problem is especially serious for new intellectual properties. Established franchises can rely on loyal audiences. An unfamiliar game may struggle to remain visible while practically every gaming conversation revolves around Rockstar.
Not Every Release Date Is Proof of a GTA 6 Escape Plan
There is an important distinction to make.
Several publishers have discussed the unusual market pressure surrounding GTA 6, and industry reporting has described companies considering release timing around Rockstar’s game.
However, a calendar date alone does not prove motive.
A game launching in October may simply be ready in October. A December release may reflect development schedules rather than a deliberate attempt to escape November 19.
Production delays, certification, marketing agreements and platform strategy can all determine release timing.
Calling every late-2026 scheduling decision a GTA 6 reaction would therefore oversimplify the situation.
Late 2026 Still Has More Than GTA 6
There is little doubt that Grand Theft Auto 6 will dominate attention as November approaches.
Few releases arrive with this level of anticipation, and even fewer have the commercial history of Grand Theft Auto behind them.
Yet the remaining 2026 calendar shows that the industry is not simply shutting down around Rockstar.
Call of Duty, Phantom Blade Zero, Zelda and other major names still occupy important positions around GTA 6, while additional platform releases continue into December.
That creates an unusual end to the year.
The question is not whether GTA 6 will have competition. It will.
The bigger question is whether players will have enough time for anything else once they arrive in Leonida.
