GTA 6 PEGI 18 Rating Reveals Lucia and Jason Can Use Drugs Directly From Their Inventory

Grand Theft Auto 6 appears ready to push its mature open-world formula further, with a briefly published PEGI rating revealing new details about drug use, violence and sexual content in Rockstar Games’ upcoming title.

The GTA 6 PEGI 18 rating itself will hardly surprise longtime fans. Grand Theft Auto has always been designed for adult audiences. However, the accompanying content description offered something considerably more interesting: specific information about activities players may encounter while controlling Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval.

Most notably, the listing described drug use as frequent and prominent. It also indicated that players will be able to access illegal drugs directly through their inventory rather than encountering them only during scripted missions.

That small detail could reveal more about GTA 6’s gameplay systems than the rating initially suggests.

GTA 6 Could Make Drug Use a Free-Roam Gameplay Mechanic

According to the PEGI information, players can participate in drug use with other characters and access illegal substances from their inventory. Cocaine was specifically mentioned as an item that can apparently be carried and consumed directly by the player.

The description suggested this can happen at any time.

That distinction matters. Drugs have appeared throughout the Grand Theft Auto franchise for decades, usually as part of criminal storylines, missions or environmental storytelling. The series has frequently focused on trafficking and organized crime, but direct player-controlled consumption has generally been more restricted.

GTA 5, for example, includes opportunities to smoke marijuana and use bongs in certain locations. Those interactions are contextual rather than something players normally carry with them throughout Los Santos.

If the PEGI description accurately represents the final game, GTA 6 drug use could operate more like a conventional consumable system. Players may be able to keep substances in their inventory and decide when to use them while exploring Leonida.

What remains unknown is whether drugs have actual gameplay effects. Rockstar has not explained whether they temporarily alter statistics, affect health, change visual presentation or exist primarily as interactive world-building elements.

For now, anything beyond the rating description would be speculation.

PEGI Listing Also Described More Realistic Violence

Drug use was not the only revealing part of the rating information.

The listing reportedly described GTA 6 violence as bloody and highly realistic. Because the game features an unrestricted open world, players can attack civilians, criminals and law enforcement officers.

Some weapons can reportedly produce particularly graphic injuries, including detailed dismemberment and decapitation.

This fits with Rockstar’s broader approach to GTA 6. The developer has repeatedly emphasized the detail of its recreation of Leonida, with dense environments, wildlife, crowds and more elaborate character interactions visible throughout the game’s promotional material.

Greater environmental detail may naturally extend to combat as well.

Rockstar has explored similarly detailed damage systems before. Red Dead Redemption 2 became known for its unusually elaborate reactions to weapons and injuries. GTA 6 could bring some of that philosophy into a much faster modern crime sandbox.

Strong Sexual Content Is Also Mentioned

The rating information also described strong sexual themes, including nudity and sexual activity.

Nightclubs appear to return as interactive locations. Players can reportedly purchase private dances and interact physically with dancers during those sequences.

Again, much of this territory is familiar to Grand Theft Auto players. Strip clubs have appeared in previous entries, including GTA 5. However, the wording of the new rating suggests Rockstar may present certain adult interactions more explicitly this time.

That would help explain why GTA 6 carries an 18 rating under the European PEGI system.

The PEGI Page Was Reportedly Removed

There is one important qualification surrounding these details.

The detailed PEGI listing was reportedly available online before being removed from the ratings body’s website. Copies and descriptions of its contents circulated before the page disappeared.

That means the information should be treated carefully until PEGI republishes the complete entry or Rockstar provides additional clarification.

The removal does not necessarily mean the information was incorrect. Rating information can appear before publishers intend all details to become publicly accessible. However, it remains unclear why this particular page disappeared.

Store listings have also displayed adult-rating information for GTA 6, reinforcing what most players already expected from the next Grand Theft Auto.

What the Rating Tells Us About GTA 6

The biggest revelation is not simply that GTA 6 contains drugs, sex and graphic violence. None of those themes would be unexpected from Rockstar’s flagship crime series.

The more interesting detail is how deeply some of those activities may be integrated into normal gameplay.

An inventory-based drug system, in particular, points toward a world where players have more options outside missions. Rockstar has steadily moved toward this style of design, especially with Red Dead Redemption 2, where eating, drinking, smoking, clothing and other small interactions helped make the world feel unusually tangible.

GTA 6 may be applying that philosophy to the considerably more chaotic setting of modern-day Leonida.

We still do not know exactly how these mechanics function or whether every detail from the briefly published rating will appear unchanged in the final release. Nevertheless, the description provides an intriguing glimpse at the level of interaction Rockstar appears to be building around Lucia and Jason.

And in a Grand Theft Auto game, even something as simple as an inventory item can reveal a surprising amount about the world players are about to enter.
